Hilarie has been making dolls since she was twelve, combining the hobby with a degree in Mathematics and Philosophy and a career in computer programming. (She is also responsible for this web site!)

In 1995 Hilarie started developing patterns for her own original cloth dolls. The first dolls were simple, long-limbed dolls with flat, painted faces made of cotton. Her current dolls have soft-sculptured heads; separate, wired fingers and curvy bodies. Most of her dolls are button-jointed at shoulders, hips, knees and elbows as she believes that grownups should also be able to play with dolls too! She  is absolutely incapable of making the same doll twice as she is constantly trying new things. Her current, self-imposed, challenge is to make cloth dolls which are as delicate and exquisite as those made from polymer clays.

Hilarie prefers to publish patterns for others to enjoy the challenge of making their own cloth doll. She has three patterns published in "The Book of Dollmaking" by Alicia Merrett and has also had patterns published in the UK "Doll Magazine".
